Mail/News processing

ZIMACS allows you to choose the method of processing used to decompress mail and news packets that you receive from Zetnet after making an automatic or Internet call. The 'Mail/News Processing' panel also allows you set various options as shown and detailed below:

Automatic Mail and News Processing

Automatic processing ensures that any incoming mail and news packets received are processed and made available inside ZIMACS as soon as you disconnect from either an automatic or an Internet call.

Selectable Mail and News Processing

Choosing the 'Selectable' option displays a dialogue box when you disconnect after an automatic or an Internet call if you have waiting mail or news packets to process. If you decide not to process the packets then they will be stored until the next time you start ZIMACS or finish an automatic or Internet call.

Manual Mail and News Processing.

Manual processing does neither of the above. Packets are left in a pending state until the 'Process' button is pressed. This button is only enabled when manual processing is selected and packets are waiting.

Tip: If processing is set to Auto or Selective and you need to re-process a packet restored from the PktSave directory, temporarily set packet processing to Manual. Alternatively wait until Zetcall downloads the next packet from the server.

Packet saving

If Enable Packet Save is checked then a copy of received mail and news packets will be saved in a directory named PktSave, a sub-directory of the Download directory. Saving packets enables them to be re-processed in the event of an error. Saved packets are deleted automatically when the auto-pack is run at the start of a month. A zipped copy of these packets is placed in the Recycle bin if the 'Zip packets before deleting' option is selected. There is an option to delete these packets when a manual pack is run from Zetset.

Tip: Do not save packets if available disk space is low or if large packets are received on a regular basis.

Duplicate Check

Prevent duplicate copies of mail and news items from appearing in the database.

Tip: Enabling duplicate checking may slow down packet processing.

FReD Mail
These options are for a future enhancement and are disabled unless the beta version of FReD has been installed.

Call charge rates

ZIMACS tracks the cost of calls made each month. Set the appropriate rate for your Telco. Special rates apply for Zetnet provided 0800 and 0808 numbers, set the number of units allowed per second in the boxes at the bottom of the window.
