What do the various file extensions used by ZIMACS mean?
Please note that this answer is provided mainly for interest - you should note open or edit any file in the ZIMACS folder unless specifically instructed on this website or by Technical Support. There are various files and file types used by ZIMACS, listed in the table below.

| zetnet.mdb | Database file containing most ZIMACS settings, as well as all email and news items |
| active.nws | The list of all newsgroups available for subscription |
| active.fil | The list of programs available for download in the Files section |
| active.pbk | The list of phone numbers used by ZIMACS | .zet | Compressed file downloaded by ZIMACS containing email and news items |
| .mal | Emails received by ZIMACS |
| .new | News items received by ZIMACS |
| .log | Log files - these are safe to open, and can contain useful information to assist Technical Support |
