1) The installation routine will begin with a welcome message. Click the "next" button.

2) You will be asked if you wish to upgrade or perform a new install. If you have an earlier version of ZIMACS on your computer, select "upgrade" and go to step 3. If you perform an upgrade, your current version of ZIMACS will be left untouched. Otherwise, select "new install" and go to step 4.

3) The message "checking for previously installed components" will appear briefly. The installation program will attempt to find the earlier version, and you will then be told the location of the earlier version of ZIMACS. If this location is incorrect, click the "browse" button and enter the correct location. Otherwise, click "next".

4) You will be asked to select which folder you would like to install ZIMACS to. Either click "next" to install to the default location (recommended), or first click "browse" to enter the location of your choice.

5) You will be asked if you want to backup any files that are replaced. The recommended action is to select "yes" and leave the backup folder on the default setting, so just click the "next" button. However, if you wish you may alter these settings before proceeding.

6) Click next, and the installation program will install ZIMACS 2. Using a 56k modem this should take about 30 minutes, though please note that this is only an estimate and may differ depending on individual circumstances. (N.B. if you are upgrading an existing copy of ZIMACS 2, the download time will be substantially less than this)

7) You will be asked if you would like an icon for ZIMACS to be placed on your desktop. It is recommended that you select yes, though you may choose not to if you wish.

8) Another file may be automatically downloaded following this stage. You will then be presented with the dialog box shown below.

9) Click the "finish" button. You may be prompted to restart your computer at this point; select "yes" if such a prompt appears. If you performed a "New Install" (rather than upgrading from an earlier version of ZIMACS) please go here. Otherwise, go to Section 3 to finish setting up ZIMACS 2.
